Lucas Schaefer is a writer based in Austin. His work has appeared in Slate, The Baffler, One Story and elsewhere. He has received a fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center, and has been a recent resident at the Wellstone Center in the Redwoods and The Studios of Key West. In March 2019, Lucas was writer-in-residence at the Corsicana Artist & Writer Residency, where he was the recipient of a G.W. Jackson Multicultural Society grant, given to artists invested in exploring race in their work. Beyond his own creative work, Lucas has reviewed fiction for Kirkus, and provided writing and editing services for non-profit organizations, grassroots groups, and political campaigns. In addition, he has a decade of experience as an educator. He is also co-host, with Antoinette Perez, of the politics and activism podcast Oh This World. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the New Writers Project at the University of Texas at Austin and a BA in History from Duke University. Lucas lives with his husband, Greg, and is currently at work on a novel.
